Wolcott: Venus Rising statue from A Tea Out Of Time (see program)
1913: Venus Rising (ETERNAL … with yearly maintenance!) Anyone who knows Wolcott is familiar with this “lady” – debatably the town’s most famous ‘femme fatale!’ In 1912, The Lakeshore News began a drive to collect money for a village fountain ” …for man and beast…” begging subscribers in, near, or from Wolcott for any amount they could spare. The total cost was probably between $900 and $1000. The statue is one of several like it in the US, and Venus receives a yearly coat of paint to keep her in top shape.
