An innovative respite program is available at no cost to caregivers of persons with dementia/Alzheimer's.
“Mornings for Me” offers a variety of creative activities in a safe, home like environment. Coffee or tea and a light snack will be provided.
“Mornings for Me” will be held one Saturday each month from 8 am - 12 noon at the Wayne ARC facility in Newark . Sessions will be limited to five people, so call early to reserve a spot.
For more information or a tour of the facility, call Rosa Barnes at 331-7741.
Alzheimer's Disease causes millions of Americans to lose their ability to recognize familiar places and faces. Many people cannot remember their name and address and may become disoriented and lost in their own neighborhood.
There is help. Safe Return is a nationwide identification and registration program that provides the individual with an engraved bracelet or necklace. Should the person wander and become lost, the bracelet or necklace instructs whoever finds the person to call an 800 phone number. A unique ID number on the bracelet identifies the lost individual and Safe Return will notify the individual's caregivers that he or she has been located.
The Wayne County Department of Aging and Youth is pleased to announce that we are an official registration site for Safe Return. For more information about Safe Return and the registration process, please contact our office at 946-5624.
