The Wayne County Bicentennial Committee as a whole, as well as many subcommittees and volunteers, have been very busy since 2019 planning ceremonial events, crafting commemorative projects, creating keepsakes and souvenirs, and otherwise documenting this momentous occasion for current, previous and even future residents and visitors. They hope you enjoy each activity and project outlined here, which was specially crafted with our collective history in mind.
The Wayne County Bicentennial Float was in its first parade – the Wolcott Memorial Day Parade on May 31, 2021. Many thanks to Rose Town Supervisor, Dick Lasher and Huron Town Supervisor, Phil Eygnor and their volunteers for the colorful and cheery Bicentennial Float that certainly brings a smile to anyone it passes by. Be sure to be on the lookout for the float in upcoming parades, farmers markets, and other events throughout Wayne County from now through 2023.
Bicentennial Memories Book - This unique collection of memories from local residents, past and present, is 400+ pages of poetry, prose, short story and memoir that will stir your own memories of beloved people, places, and things that are special to Wayne County. (See Press Release)
Bicentennial Activity Book - This specially created 60-page activity book features a journey through all the Wayne County towns, highlighting important historical facts and special features within each, along with puzzles, coloring pages, word searches, as well as a “what did you learn” sections. Targeted for children in grades 3 through 5, the book can also be a family or group activity for all ages.
A two-year commemorative calendar was designed in honor of the county's upcoming 200-year birthday in 2023. The calendar contains approximately 800 historical facts related to Wayne County as well as over 300 images representing all aspects of life from the past two centuries in Wayne County. This is a keepsake that you will enjoy looking at for many years, AND it would make a GREAT Gift.
